Tour Guide at St. John's University
Hometown: Hauppauge, NY
Major: Physician Assistant Program
When deciding which school to attend as a senior in high school I had a mental checklist that I never expected to be fully checked off by any of the schools I was looking at. St. John's changed that; it was a good distance from home, close to NYC, had D1 sports and a strong feeling of community. It also had a dance team, PA program and a loving church. The cherry on top is that it is a campus that is beautiful during all 4 seasons and it is very safe place to be! I got very lucky with this great find!
Since becoming a Johnny I have seen my self become more culturally competent and more confident. I love learning about the different religions/cultures represented at SJU and I love feeling confident in the decisions I make as well as the people I decide to surround myself with!
I have so many great memories as a Johnny it's hard to pick just one! When thinking back, one memory that really stands out to me is dancing with St. John's University Dance Team at all of the men's Basketball games. Whether the game was at MSG or Carnesecca Arena, there is no better feeling then sitting on the court and dancing on the floor for thousands of fans all wearing RED, jumping to their feet and cheering on the team as they yell "GO JOHNNIES"! It just gives off the greatest community vibe and really shows a fun way that Johnnies can come together!
Definitely the people! From the first time I stepped on this campus I knew that there was something different about the people who attended SJU. Aside from being hard working and positive individuals, all of the Johnnies that I meet have a special place for service in their hearts. I have never met so many people who want to partake in different service events, not because it looks good or because they want to hand it in for hours, but because they truly want to make a difference in the world. It is amazing to see people doing just that with the incredible service opportunities that St. John's has to offer. Above all the people that I meet are always friendly and welcoming! Whether you are just sharing a smile with someone or making a new friend, the sense of community is always strong among the SJU family.
