Tour Guide at St. John's University
Class of 2019
Hometown: Guaynabo, PR
My favorite memory as a Johnny was my Orientation. I had chosen to study at St. John’s on a whim and hadn’t gotten the opportunity to visit the school, but the moment I stepped on campus and was introduced to my OL’s, I felt like I belonged here. I’m glad I took a leap of faith and decided to become a Johnny because I truly feel that I found my home.
St. John’s definitely stands out from other universities because of their mission and the dedication that all faculty and administration members have to the success of students. St. John's University is also one of the most diverse universities in the nation, which creates an open and tolerant environment that fosters students’ strengths and individuality.
I chose St. John's because I have always dreamed of studying in New York City and SJU’s proximity to Manhattan allowed me to live out this dream without studying in the epicenter of the city itself. The opportunity to study in a beautiful campus with the amazing community feel that I had always been looking for opened up to me, and I am so glad I took it. Another deciding factor for me was the opportunities that St. John's offers its students. Whether it is networking opportunities or the chance to study abroad, there is something at this school for anyone and everyone, which I find truly amazing.
I think I have definitely matured since becoming a Johnny. I’ve become more outgoing and passionate, and I’m no longer as introverted as when I got to SJU, which is a big change. I’ve also adapted to the environment and have embraced the mission of the University! Lastly, I’ve been given more opportunities to network, get involved, and actively seek out jobs and internships that will ultimately help me with my career in the future.
