I've become more outgoing, pushing myself to do things outside my comfort zone. I've also been able to meet so many different people here, so I'm getting used to opening myself up to other cultures and perspectives that I haven't encountered before.
I chose SJU because of its location and all the opportunities that would be available to me in NYC. I'm a big college basketball fan so of course having home games at Madison Square Garden is a huge plus. However, I chose it because of how enthusiastic all the people here are about what they do and who they want to be. Teachers are enthusiastic to help you as much as you are enthusiastic to learn and SJU gives you countless resources to help you succeed.
It's kind of the best of both worlds. You're close enough to Manhattan to go there often, but far away enough where you can take a break from the city if you need to and I like that. There's a lot of diversity here which I think is great to help expand your horizons by learning about other cultures, backgrounds, and perspectives. Also, St. John's is the only college team that plays at MSG as the home team and student tickets are only $10 for games there so it's a hard deal to beat.
I participated in the Global Passport Program and got to spend a week with some of my classmates on the campus in Rome. It was my first time abroad ever and we were able to see and experience so much in such a short week while becoming closer friends. It was really a life changing experience.
