Tour Guide at St. John's University
Class of 2019
Hometown: Atlanta, GA
My first Christmas show with my improv troupe. The night of our performance an entire lecture hall was packed. People had to bring in seats just to see. To witness that abundance of support from the St. John's community was something I will never forget. People from all interest groups had come out and for an hour all of us forgot our differences. We put aside the fact that most of us were strangers. Everyone just melded together and enjoyed the night as the performance played out.
I knew I wanted to go to school up north, maintain the diversity I had gained in high school while also having a physical campus. Many of the schools I was interested in would have forced a choice between the college life experience or being smack in the middle of New York City. St. John's offered me a middle ground I couldn't say no to.
The opportunities to grow are endless here. With the diversity, location and mission here at SJU, there's something for everyone. It's up to you to take advantage of all that is offered.
St. John's forced me to take numerous steps outside of my comfort zone. I have put myself out there as a performer, student and overall person. Whether it be through improv, service learning or expanding my views on religions across the globe, I have discovered so many new things. There are an abundance of opportunities available in classrooms, organizations and the city around us and because of St. John's, I'm no longer afraid to try them.
