What makes St. John's different is the diversity of people, cultures, backgrounds, and societies. I have had the greatest blessing of being able to experience many things I never would have before. From talking to my friends about their homes across the world, to exploring the world renowned New York City, and having every experience you could ever hope for at the tip of your fingers, St. John's makes dreams come true: no matter what that may be. For students with any passion, they can find a true home at St. John's.
While going through the college selection process, I knew I wanted to be able to stay close to home because family is the most important thing to me. After narrowing my choices, I wanted a school that had everything I wanted; a strong Campus Ministry presence, intramural sports, many study abroad options and most of all, an affordable education. St. John's had everything I was looking for, and more and I couldn't be happier to be a Johnny.
Since becoming a Johnny, I have become more independent from being away from home most of the time. I have also become a better version of myself because St. John's offers a lot of service opportunities where I am able to help others while I reflect on the person who I am, while being surrounded by great people who support me to grow.
My favorite memory since becoming a Johnny was my first day on campus. I was able to move in a few weeks early to be a part of a service week called "Rendu." This was retreat fro freshman at the end of August where we stayed at St.John's and went to a different service site each day. Every evening we played games, hung out, and bonded with people I've never met before. I recommend this to every single freshman coming to St. John's. This experience opened my eyes to a new world I didn't know about and opened a door for me to walk into school the first day an already have many familiar faces in front of me. Still today, the people who were there with me during Rendu are some of my best friends in the world.
