Tour Guide at St. John's University
Class of 2019
Hometown: Gustine , CA
Since becoming a Johnny, I feel that I have become more independent and more mature. Since coming to SJU I have learned many new things, beside from learning new materials in classes, other skills I have obtained are learning how to use public transportation, manage my time and how to be a student leader.
What makes SJU different is how we have such a wonderful and close community despite have over 15,000 students. I really feel what makes SJU special is all the amazing people and friends that I have made. Being from California I can really call SJU my home away from home because of all the great friends and facility I have met and became close with.
As a Johnny, I have made several memories. Two of my favorite memories include being able to attend all the free events on campus and getting baptized in our St. Thomas More Church. My memory with free events on campus happened during our annual spring carnival, I was able to ride a Farris wheel for the first time. It was a memory that happened on the great lawn and I will never forget the amazing views I saw from campus. I was able to get baptized in our campus church after undergoing the Rite of Christian Initiation.
I chose SJU because I fell in love with the beautiful campus. I really liked how we were one of the very few New York City schools to actually have a full campus with many resources, facilities and lawn areas. I liked how SJU has really great and affordable study abroad programs, a church on campus and its proximity to New York City. SJU had many of the things I was looking for in a university, I was really excited to hear that they had over 150 student organizations, NYC sport teams, and many opportunities for internships and employment in/near NYC. Overall SJU had everything I was looking for and attending SJU has been one of the best decisions in life that I have made so far.
