Tour Guide at St. John's University
Class of 2022
Hometown: Garden City, NY
I have changed substantially in the small time I have been a Johnny! Coming from a community that was very one-sided and one-minded, I've been able to expand my perception of knowledge, to see problems for what they are and take action to solve them. Becoming more intelligent in terms of academics, but also in social and networking skills have allowed me to grow. Lastly, realizing that I'm a small part of a bigger picture is very humbling, especially that your peers are striving for their goals as well.
My favorite memory as a Johnny has been taking the plunges and retreats through Campus Ministry, especially the Rendu and Denver Plunges. Through those experiences, I met people who are like-minded to me, made lifetime connections, become a mentor, served to larger communities who needed it, and put others before myself. All things I wouldn't have been able to accomplish if I wasn't a Johnny.
I have family who came to St. John's in the past and they raved about their experience. Also, I knew I wanted to stay close to the most thriving and prosperous city in the world, New York City. Not only that, but I was offered academic scholarship, financial aid, and acceptance into the Honors College. Above all else, I desired a community that focused on serving others and a place that felt like home, and that all was prevalent in St. John's University.
St. John's University stands out from other university and colleges because it has NYC in it's backyard, which opens up to service and job opportunities. The sense of community, faith, and a home-type feel enables students to feel comfortable in an environment to become who they truly are to be.
